    Dear All,

Sometimes the extraction of NIR faint targets can be hard. Even after stack all expositions, the science target signal is still very weak and typical IRAF tasks used for spectral extraction may not produce the expected results. In cross-dispersed mode this issue can be produced in one or more of the spectral order.

One way of workaround on this problem is extract the telluric standard before, which is usually very bright, and than use this as a template for the science extraction. This procedure can be done for example with IRAF APALL, and can improve the final spectrum.

If someone know a better/different way to do the extraction of such objects please share your technique with us and lets discuss about it…
