Hello! I am working on creating some master flats and I have overscan subtraction and trimming set to yes, as well as the interactive fitting set to yes. When I execute the command the interactive graphics window which pops up is just a black screen and I cannot see any plot to do the fitting with, I just have to press ‘q’ and accept the fit of the order I gave on the command line since I cannot see the fit itself on the display window. Has anyone else had this problem?

    Aloha.
Are you using IRAF? If so, try using Pyraf.
Instead of running “cl” in your xgterm, simply call “pyraf” in the directory of your data, and try again.

Hello! I am indeed using Pyraf! I am really new to this and so I am not completely sure what you mean by calling Pyraf in the directory of my data. What I usually do its start Pyraf from a terminal usually starting in my home directory and then start gemini then gmos and then navigate to my data and call the tasks and work from there. Is this what you mean? Or navigate to the directory with my data before trying to start Pyraf?
thanks so much for the response!

What you are doing with Pyraf sounds good.
So, if it is Pyraf that does not work, try IRAF…
To use IRAF, you need to first get to the directory where you have your file “login.cl”, then type “cl”- ENTER. Once you are in IRAF, you call the Gemini package libraries, and get to your data.
    I hope it works!

Okay I tried to do the same thing on IRAF except no graphics window popped up to allow me to fit the overscan interactively, there was just text in the terminal window which said “Default GUI for Xgterm, providing a standard graphics terminal emulation. Reset server app initialize irafterm IRAFterm { IRAFterm, objects: toplevel Gterm gterm, *allowShellResize:true, *gterm.warpCursor: true, *gterm.raiseWindow: true, *gterm.deiconifyWindow:true}” and then the lines were I just click the enter button in order to continue through the extensions of the image. I am thinking this is the IRAF version of the interactive fitting, however I just would like to have the graphics window where I can see how well the order fits the plot and change the order of the fit interactively. Maybe I am missing a step?
    Thanks again,

Ok. I think I see more or less what is happening.

At this point, because it is a technical problem, it would be better addressed with a helpdesk ticket (it will go to an expert within about a week). Fill your ticket : https://www.gemini.edu/sciops/helpdesk/submit-general-helpdesk-request
Please, select the Topic: “General IRAF”.

In your description of your problem, please say:
    1. Which Operating System you are using
    2. Which IRAF version you have and how it was installed (Ureka, Conda, other)

I hope things get sorted shortly!
